Tonight we played a mixed-bag sort of program as part of the symphony-in-the-parks concerts at Harrison Park in S.E. Portland. We had a pretty good crowd, and the weather was warm (high 80’s) though the sun was largely down by the time we got to the 7 p.m. start time. The crowd was a pretty seasoned bunch of concertgoers, and they really ate up the goods we had in store for them. Later today we have a rare Sunday morning rehearsal, one of five (!) for the upcoming Waterfront Park concert (Thursday August 31 at 7:00 p.m.). Usually we only have Sunday morning rehearsals as part of a Kids Concert set (rehearsal in a.m., two matinées in the afternoon), so this is going to be a pretty bleary-eyed morning! It just hit me today that I’ve begun my second decade in the orchestra – what a trip – proof that I’m getting older just like the rest of the world… 🙁
