ONE NIGHT ONLY: THE INCOMPARABLE EARTHA KITT

PERFORMS WITH THE OREGON SYMPHONY

(PORTLAND, Ore.) – The seductive Eartha Kitt – a showbiz icon whose career has spanned more than six decades of stardom in film, theater, cabaret, television and the recording studio – makes a rare Portland appearance on Saturday, Feb. 9, in a special pre-Valentine’s concert with the Oregon Symphony.
At the age of 81, Kitt still commands the kind of stage presence that once caused actor-director Orson Welles to call her “the most exciting woman in the world.” She regularly performs her one-of-a-kind, one-woman show in venues from intimate clubs and cabarets to Carnegie Hall and nationally prominent jazz festivals.
Her cabaret-style Oregon Symphony performance will feature many of the tunes that have become synonymous with Kitt over the decades, including La Vie En Rose, C’est Si Bon and I Want to Be Evil. Also on the program: a variety of classics ranging from Broadway to the Great American Songbook, including Stephen Sondheim’s I’m Still Here, Cole Porter’s What Is This Thing Called Love? and Kander & Ebb’s Mein Herr.

Kitt’s regular conductor, Daryl Waters, will lead the Oregon Symphony in the performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Because a large crowd is expected and ticket availability is limited, fans are advised to buy tickets early for the best seat selection.

Tickets are available for $20 to $112 at the Oregon Symphony Ticket Office, 923 SW Washington St., in downtown Portland. Ticket office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone at (503) 228-1353 or (800) 228-7343 during the same hours, or online at any time from the orchestra’s web site, www.orsymphony.org.
Tickets are also available through ticketmaster.com or by calling (503) 790-ARTS. Discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more are available through the symphony’s group sales hotline, (503) 416-6380.

Eartha Kitt’s appearance with the Oregon Symphony is sponsored by Moonstruck Chocolate Co., with additional support from Chinook Winds Casino Resort.
