I write one of the few blogs independently-penned by an orchestra member, and I’m not sure why it’s such a lonely job description. However, a rapidly expanding area of classical music blogs are blogs that are written as part of a symphony orchestra’s public relations and/or artistic arms.Â
Here’s a short list of links to those that I’ve discovered so far:
The Score – the Seattle Symphony’s official blog
Inside the Classics – a musician/conductor authored blog for the Minnesota Orchestra’s Inside the Classics series.
L.A. Chamber Orchestra blog – an official blog of the LACO
Pittsburgh Symphony blogs – a collection of postings by members of the PSO family, including board and audience members (!)
St. Louis Symphony blog – a management blog authored by Eddie Silva
Utah Symphony/Opera blog – a management blog written by various staff members
The Australian Chamber Orchestra Blogs Here – pretty much self-explanatory
BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra blog
The Edmonton Symphony even had a symphony blog night, with a room specially for bloggers to blog live during the concert – interesting idea!
And the San Francisco Symphony did something very similar.
If you have a favorite symphony orchestra blog or event that you want others to know about, click on the contact tab above or submit a comment with a link – I’ll keep a collection over on the right side in the blogroll column.
