After reading this extraordinary review of the new pianist phenom Yuja Wang with the San Francisco Symphony, I now am fairly desperate to see her in performance. I hope that we can get her for an OSO series in an upcoming season. I’d heard rumors that she was like Lang Lang but with discipline and no theatrics, and it sounds like she’s delivering, and how!

Yuja is extraordinary. She is a genuinely mature and cultivated musician, as well as being a formidable pianist. I had the opportunity to hear her and meet her when I was cover conducting in Kansas City. She is delightful. I hope she comes here before she is too expensive! Check out “The House of Flying Fingers” on youtube.
lang-langerace without theatrics wouldn’t be lang-langerace.
as for yuja, while she may very well be molto fabulosa, i wonder, does the “classical music world” really NEED another virtuoso pianist?
i say, let’s get a contrabass tuba player in the limelight, already.
