I had a chance to see Lenny do this Mahler 1st Symphony at a outdoor pavilion in the San Francisco area back in 1979. He was taking the New York Philharmonic to Japan on a Far East tour but was giving some concerts in California before jetting overseas. I had been to the Concord Pavilion before and was more than ready to drive out and see them but…….something came up and I didn’t go. I’ve always regretted my missed opportunity that came and went.
