fingerboard phenomenon

In last week’s 2004 piece Phenomenon, there were some challenges that are not often faced in the course of the average symphony concert.  After the initial outburst, there is a eerie section of glissando trills that are very high in each stringed instrument’s register.  Some resourceful members of the string sections found ways to make finding the initial top notes a bit simpler – gaffer’s tape.  A photo is worth a thousand words:

If Real String Players who work in Real Orchestras can use the occasional bit of painter’s tape, I feel a little better. 🙂
