This week marks the first official week of work for our newly-hired principal flutist, Jessica Sindell. She is a wonderful player, and perhaps even better, a sparkling personality whose smile can already be seen lighting up even the most dreary of rehearsals.
Jessica is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and before she won the Oregon Symphony audition, she was in San Francisco studying at the San Francisco Conservatory with SFSO principal flutist Timothy Day. She attended the Aspen Music Festival as well as the Interlochen Arts Academy.
She’s a native of Cleveland, Ohio, where she was principal flutist of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra.
Her local connection in Portland? She’s the niece of Portland State University violin professor Carol Sindell.

Not sure if she will see this, but if Jessica does monitor this blog, then I send a hearty welcome to the Oregon Symphony. Bestof luck to you. I look forward to hearing you play as a permanent member of the orchestra.
Welcome to Portland. I would like to write a concerto for you with mutiphonics. A world premier of my orchestral work in Portland is with the Starlight Orchestra. Stan Mitchell
