Two beloved parts of Portland’s musical cultural melting pot will come together this Saturday, February 1 at 7:30 pm at the Alberta Rose Theater. The first half will feature 45th Parallel musicians performing works by local composers, all with an American twist, and the the stage is given over to local bluegrass sensation Jackstraw.
- Violist/composer Kenji Bunch (a Corvallis native) will perform one of his own compositions for solo viola, entitled 3 G’s.
- Oregon Symphony percussionist Sergio Carreno and violinist Liz Drier will play a composition of Carreno’s called Alchemy.
- Local beat boxer Gabe Gleason will improvise.
- The 45th Parallel Quartet will play works of William Grant Still, Mark O’Connor, and George Chadwick.
- And Oregon Symphony principal trumpeter Jeffrey Work will play two works by American composer James Stephenson.
- Local sensation bluegrass band Jackstraw will play a full set for the second half of the concert.
