It’s that time of year again, and one that I eagerly await, for it is time for the Metro Arts, Inc. Young Artists Debut Concert. Eleven wonderful young musicians will perform some of the greatest music for their instruments with a professional orchestra under the direction of Niel DePonte. The kids never fail to amaze, and it’s often the highlight of my year to play in the orchestra and watch them shine!
This year, violinist alumnus Rebecca Anderson returns to appear with the orchestra. She’s a prime example of the kind of success that accompanies the hard work that participants put in to both win a spot on the concert, and then to hone their performances in the months leading up to the big night. Her burgeoning career has included performances with many of the top chamber music festivals in the country, including Chamber Music Northwest, and she’s co-founder of a brilliant string quartet (the Fidelio Quartet) that’s at the start of its career (full disclosure: their violist is a former student of mine). Her future looks very bright indeed – as does her present!
The concert is this Tuesday evening, April 1st, at 7:30 p.m. at Portland’s Newmark Theater. If you can’t make the concert in person, you can listen live or online at Portland’s 24-hour Classical station, AllClassical.org, hosted by Robert McBride and Christa Wessel, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
