It’s been quite a season for me. I don’t recall having ever been as busy as a musician as I have these past nine months. It’s been exhausting, exhilarating, and yes, frustrating, too. I find myself with a largely free weekend (though I’m playing the cruelly difficult and transparent Françaix String Trio and Copland’s 13 player version of Appalachian Spring on tonight’s final Classical Up Close concert in Lake Oswego, and am preparing for Monday’s rehearsals of Christopher Rouse’s Concerto for Orchestra – his music is never, ever easy) and it almost seems like time to take stock of the season that is almost done, and perhaps look ahead at the summer’s activities, and then look at the upcoming season as well. And I will do that – just not today!
For now, I’ll bask in the afterglow of last night’s Third Angle New Music concert with Alex Ross, which was a triumph in so many ways. The performances went well, the audience was super enthusiastic and really “into it”, and the music was rewarding and worth the effort. Stay tuned, I’ll be back this week with what I’ve promised in this post. Meanwhile, I’ll be taking a nap…
