Well, the day has arrived: the first day of the 2011-2012 season of the Oregon Symphony! I’m not quite sure that it warrants an exclamation point just yet (it is earlier in the morning than I’m used to being functional after a long summer), but this is going to be a season full of both favorite old pieces and wonderful unfamiliar favorites, both new and old.
But, for the moment, it is our traditional season-opening Waterfront concert that will be occupying our attention this week (click here for details), concluding with that most horsey of war horses, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with cannons provided and manned by the Oregon National Guard.
