The CBC Radio 2 program In Concert has bestowed the title of Disc of the Week for the week of January 7th, 2013 to the Oregon Symphony’s second recording with music director Carlos Kalmar “This England”, featuring works of Ralph Vaughan Williams, Edward Elgar, and Benjamin Britten.
This is England, [sic] devoted to 20th-century works by leading British composers, is no less impressive. Recorded live at the orchestra’s home concert hall in Portland, Oregon, the sound is vivid and fresh, and the orchestra plays with remarkable depth of colour and rhythmic drive.
