You may have read the recent Oregonian article, or seen the KGW-TV story, about the recent concession of over $380,000 over the next season by the musicians of the Oregon Symphony. We gave up two and a half weeks of pay from this season, and a scheduled pay raise for the next. It was a painful decision for us, but a necessary one. Now, the organization faces a gap (narrowed significantly by the salary concessions, but not eliminated) that only donors can fill. Staff and musicians have taken cuts, and this spring’s trip to Carnegie Hall was hastily cancelled, all in the name of bringing our budget into balance. Now, our donation revenue needs to grow – especially in the next thirty days – the orchestra’s fiscal year ends June 30th. Already, members of our board have stepped up, with one $100,000 pledge, and several of $5000. This is a fantastic start. And you can help us put this year’s budget to bed in the black.
