itzhak’s in town

Friday we had our second set of rehearsals for our next Classical series concert with beloved violinist Itzhak Perlman at the helm.  He’s really a genial guy, he acts like “one of the guys” with the orchestra and generally lets us do whatever we want to (within reason).  He had a couple good comments during the rehearsals today, including “If it’s hard, then you must be doing something right”, and when the viola section got unruly, he asked us to just supply “a hint of viola” and remarked that he should write a book with that title.  Sounds good to me.

The program for the week is the little known Schubert Symphony No. 3, the Brahms Symphony No. 2, and Perlman will do double duty as both conductor and soloist in the Bach Violin Concerto No. 1.

I also got a small video snippet of Perlman messing around on Associate concertmaster Peter Frajola’s violin, I’ll post it as soon as I can get it ready for web viewing.
