Last night I had the great privilege of hearing 17 year old violist Maia Hoffman play an extraordinary viola recital. It wasn’t an extraordinary student recital. It was an extraordinary recital by ANY musician. Clearly, Maia is destined for great things. She has a maturity to go along with her obvious technical and musical abilities, and that is the sign of a truly special musician. My mind boggles at the possibilities that lay at her feet going forward. Two of those opportunities are here, right now, for her. She’s been invited to attend the Viola Institute at Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the incredibly competitive Heifetz Institute in Virginia. Her family is in a tough financial bind right now, due to health concerns, and Maia is crowd funding the money needed to get to and pay tuition for these two incredible musical experiences.

So, if you’re feeling like you want to make a difference, and actually SEE the difference happen in the life of a truly talented and deserving young musician, I urge you in the strongest possible terms to give what you can to the remarkable Maia Hoffman.
